I have a brother who loves World Of Warcraft and Bullet For My Valentine. So for his birthday I thought to make a parody of the two. Speedpaint done over the lunch hour.
So I hadn't planned on painting anything this year but as Halloween drew closer I got swept into it. So it's no big surprise this idea came to me while eating a McDonald's hamburger. What is surprising is that I got the monster idea from listening to the kids Halloween mix on Pandora. Surprised? Thought so...
Oh my it's been a while since my last update. Not for lack of painting however. I have spent a lot of time on this recent painting and cannot wait to share. For now though here's a quick speed paint of Grant from Garou:Mark Of The Wolves which I created for a birthday present for a friend of mine. Rough line work and straight to color.
The one above here is a color painting over a drawing by the super talented Sydney Hanson. This one was a speed painting done over the lunch hour for a birthday gift.
I hope to be updating with some more substantial stuff soon. That's what I get for making complicated artwork though: less posting updates.
New contest entry for Sketchoholic. The topic for this one was to pair Lady Gaga with an animal or creature. The queen alien idea came to me instantly. I listened to Bad Romance as an inspirational tune.
So rather than doing a daily sketch I've been working on this for the past 4-5 days. It's been a struggle to say the least. By far the most detailed painting I've ever done hands down. I "cheated" and created the pile of bullets in 3D and painted them in. For the gun curious yes that's an AA12...and a Echo-1 minigun and that crazy pistol shotgun from Killzone.
Syd and I collaborated again this week. This one was a serious fight for me. I was looking to try out different rendering and color techniques. They all failed. :( But I was able to make something work towards the very, very end. I'm trying to incorporate more color and find a process that works for me. This one was tonal first with color after.
Super quick one. A lot of stuff going on on Thursday. I like the perspective on this one. I started messing around with tonal rendering again on this one. Makes me realize I still need LOTS of work.
So on my FB page one of my old classmates let me know that their kids have been loving the sketches. I felt honored and mentioned that I would love to have them pick the next character. They picked spiderman but she mentioned I'm doing Xmen so they picked storm. I say, why not do both right? Throw in the fact it was Star Wars Day and I had to throw Maul in too. This one was a lot of work. I must have redrawn everyone at least 3 times to get the right flow.
My co-worker Rachel and I decided today I will do Cyclops. Oddly enough the first idea that came to mind is that Mr.Scott Summers secretly is a huge MJ fan. So here he is practicing his favorite move.
So I'm not really done with doing xmen yet but a client of mine really frustrated me yesterday. All that was coming out while sketching were angry eyes so I thought that would fit Magneto nicely.
My friend Syd and I had a chance to collaborate on a contest entry for sketchoholic last week. The topic was Big Ears. I was going for a more realistic approach and perhaps the contrast suffered some. It didn't place well so I'm looking for critiques. :) Regardless though I had a blast rendering Syd's super cute idea.
Looks like sunday is looking to be traditional pencil drawing day. I really hated the line art on this one but liked it a little more once I added some tonal rendering.
So my cousin Curtis graduated this weekend and I wasn't able to make it out. So I asked him which xmen he would like as a sketch. He picked wolverine. I decided to take it a little serious and not so silly this time around.
I spent a lot of time today refining a contest entry for sketchoholic. This left me very drained of art power but somehow I managed to make this one work. Have a great weekend everyone!
Not gonna lie, I was rolling during the last 10 minutes of finishing this one. I had to color it because it was hard to read in black and white. This is another one I'd like to paint tonally someday. sigh. On to friday's sketch.
This one developed from 2 lines which oddly made me think to actually use perspective. Crazy right? Well this one was a blast as Bishop is one of my favorite Xmen. Plus he rocks that haircut.
So I'm seeing if I can do a daily superhero sketch. Let's see how long I can keep this up. Perhaps I'd be more motivated since it is superheroes and I can draw them..all...day.
